Lysanne Morissette

Respite worker

“For over twelve years, I’ve been working with people with intellectual disabilities and with vulnerable elderly people in a variety of settings. An avid traveller, I’ve worked in several places: Guatemala, Brazil, a refugee camp in France. After completing a bachelor's degree in social work at UQAM, I spent 5 years in England to pursue my dream of studying dance, in order to integrate art into my social interventions. I took part in an international tour and developed my approach to the visual arts at the same time. While studying, I continued to work with the elderly. Returning to Quebec in 2019, I begin my graduate studies in art therapy and joined the Baluchon Alzheimer team as a respite worker. Today, I work as a social worker in a social pediatrics centre in Montreal, and I’m happy to be able to continue offering short respite periods for caregivers.

Being a respite worker allows me to learn a lot about myself and others. I love to get to know the other person and fully respect who he/she is, while entering into his/her rhythm and life to better understand how to support him/her. It’s my passion! I look forward to meeting you”.
