Private financing
From its creation in 1999 to November 2007, Baluchon Long-term Respite Care operated with funds from donors, private foundations and social programs.
Its main source of revenue was the contribution from families, which initially amounted to $50 per day before gradually increasing to $100. However, even with a daily rate of $100, these revenues were not enough to cover the deficit. In fact, the more services were requested, the deeper the financial hole became. Recourse to government aid became essential to keep the organization in operation.
Recurrent government funding
In 2007, our organization received its first recurring engagement from the government. A second recurring engagement was put in place in 2019 to accommodate a surge in demand.
This increase in public funding was awarded under the leadership of Marguerite Blais, the Minister responsible for Seniors and Informal Caregivers.
Easier access to services means more families can enjoy long-term respite care. In-home respite care is available in all regions of Quebec. Thanks to a growing sense of mutual trust, and rigorous transparency on the part of our organization, the partnership between the government and Baluchon Long-term Respite Care is stronger than ever.
The Foundation and its donors
Baluchon Long-term Respite Care relies on the support of its Foundation to fill the funding gap. The Foundation uses benefit events, direct mail campaigns, and fundraisers to solicit private funding sources for the baluchonnage. The Foundation is particularly proud of the trust and support it receives from its generous donors, private foundations, and companies, year after year.
Baluchon Long-term Respite Care is also fortunate to have the support of its many members, who take a keen interest in the organization's development and initiatives.
The actual cost of a day of baluchonnage is several hundred dollars. As such, it is mainly thanks to private donations that Baluchon Long-term Respite Care is able to maintain such a high quality of service and offer the baluchonnage to families for the modest sum of $15/day. Nevertheless, approximately $200 per day of respite care costs are still borne by our Foundation.
